To ensure Right to work of persons with disabilities, SANCHAR organized “Ability Expo : A call for equal right to earn a living” supported by Sightsavers on 20th March 2015 at Rotary Sadan in Kolkata. This event provided an excellent opportunity to adult persons with disabilities the opportunity to interact with prospective employers, who shared the scope and opportunities of employment for persons with disabilities in their organisation /company. The representatives from various government and non-government organisations, departments and training centres shared various information regarding training and employment. There was an arrangement for registration under Special Employment Exchange Cell as well as Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped during the event and a significant number of persons with disabilities registered their name. Moreover, various organisations and persons with disabilities were given a space to exhibit and to sale their handicraft products. The event was a success with the participation of more than 200 people including persons with disabilities, their parents and NGO representatives. We have been fortunate to have more than 20 guests and speakers representing various govt. departments, training centres, corporates, private companies and NGOs during the event.  We believe that this was just the initiation of the interaction between the employers /training centres and persons with disabilities, which will be followed by several similar programmes and event in coming days.
