Theatre is one of the most powerful tools to reach children to empower them to build their confidence and self-esteem. Children who are socially and economically underprivileged hardly get the opportunity to explore themselves; whereas theatre taps into the instinct with which they are born and helps them to focus more on who they truly are and can be than on how they measure up by the society. Theatre helps a child grow, improves communication skills, gives an opportunity to express oneself, fosters peer acceptance and their cooperation, and helps develop moral values and sensitivity towards others. SANCHAR conducts theatre workshops in residential units of 5 schools for underprivileged children run by the School Education Department (Govt. of West Bengal) under Sarva Siksha Mission (Education for all) to foster their mental growth. These workshops also include mime, posture, body movement and vocal skills etc.
